NCBiotech Library Presents: DIY Patent Searching

NCBiotech Library Presents: DIY Patent Searching
Event on 2015-05-01 11:45:00

Does patent searching make your head spin? Are you overwhelmed by legal jargon and convoluted classification systems?

Join us for a lunch-and-learn on Friday, May 1 at the NC Biotechnology Center. NCBiotech Research Librarian Karin Shank will demystify the patent process, from provisional patent applications to granted patents. She’ll share strategies for searching for patents and provide an overview of free online tools to make the process easier. We’ll also talk about how to set up alerts for patents so you’re always able to track emerging technologies in your field.

This lunch-and-learn will not provide legal advice, but it will be a forum for us to talk about DIY patent searching challenges and strategies, so come ready to share your own experiences as well.

Intended audience: Researchers and scientists who need to do their own patent searching, information professionals who need to do patent searching on behalf of clients

Agenda:

12:00-1:00           Presentation and discussion of patent searching techniques
